Volunteers For The Sport & Leisure Show

The club has a booth for the weekend at the Sport & Leisure Show. We require some help in setup, teardown and staffing the booth.

It's simple work, we'll have some handouts and you just answer questions. We have made new members form some of the contacts made at the show, so it is very worthwhile.

The show is on as follows:
Friday 1pm to 9pm (8 hours)
Saturday 9am to 10pm (13 hours)
Sunday 9am to 5pm (8 hours)

We'd especially like some volunteers for Friday before 6pm, Saturday afternoon and Sunday. If you can work a 2 or 3 hour block please contact Bill Huber at 761-2672.

TRANSPONDER ORDER DEADLINE

Please contact Keith (kmmotorsports@accesscomm.ca or 591-7038) by Sat April 1/06 if you want to order your own AMB transponder at the introductory price of $268 (tax included). A payment option of 3 payments is also available. The first payment is $150 due now, followed by 2 monthly payments (May 1 and June 1) for $60 each.

Driver/Marshall School

Our MANDATORY Driver/Marshall School will take place at the Brownstone (1500 Broad St) at 7pm Tuesday April 11. Please ensure you attend. The club NEEDS marshalls in order for racing to occur.

I plan to spend some time on the various websites by the end of Jan. I hope to have minutes from the annual general meeting, final 2005 points, and some options for the club for 2006 operations.

The options relate to fees and volunteer work for race day operations, and require serious consideration from all members and racers if we plan to continue operating at similar expense levels as previous years.

Please be advised that due to the fact we are playing catch up, the final event on Sunday the 18th will have a revised time shedule and has a change in direction. The direction change is brought about because the race that we only partly finished was run one direction and the last race was scheduled to run the other. The race last Sunday was reveresed in order to accomadate the change.

Track direction this weekend will be counter clockwise.

Practice will start at 9:00 am
Racing will start at 11:00 am.

Track Clean-Up Sat July 9

The track has been levelled, sealed and is ready to go again. HOWEVER, we really need to clean up and finish things up ASAP. This Saturday (July 9), we will be working on cleaning, finishing the fence, etc.

We need a scrap hauler truck and or trailer, a post pounder and some weede eaters.

Let me know if you can supply any stuff. We will be starting approx 9:00am and hope to be out of there shortly after lunch time.

To ALL Club Members;

Due to the rain and late start to the season, we have sent out an updated schedule.
Please be aware that we are doing our best to get the season under way.

For the month of June, we have rescheduled the following events;

Club Race 2 now referred to as new “RACE 1”, has been rescheduled from last weekend to Saturday June 4th. In case of rain, we will run Sunday June 5th starting at 1:30 pm. If rained out on Sunday we will run Saturday June 11th as a rain date starting in the evening.

Club Race 3 now new “RACE 2” originally scheduled for June 11th has been MOVED to Saturday June 18th with an evening start.

Club Race 1 that was scheduled for May 15th has been rescheduled to July 17th and is now referred to as RACE 4.

New Race’s 2 and 4 will be “official” Saskatchewan Rotax Series events that will qualify racers to enter the Nationals. These races will also be ROK Cup and Regular club events.

Please make sure you check the SSKC web site for updates

Remember the SSKC Annual General Meeting and Year End Wind-up are scheduled for Saturday November 6 at the Brownstone Building (1275 Broad St.). Thanks Zieglers!!

Times are as follows:

Supper & Awards - 7:00 pm

As in the past, please bring your own beverages and cash for supper. We will be ordering food in, and each family is responsible for their portion.

The evening should be an entertaining one. There is trophy presentations for the points champions, the Kart Racer movie will be playing, pictures from the season will be on display, and there may even be a door prize!

For the Annual Meeting, there appear to be some big changes coming next year, so as many members as possible are needed at the meeting to ensure we get things right. Also, it is YOUR club. What do you like? What do you think should change? How will you help it change?

I'd like to provide an agenda for the meeting by Wed Nov 3, so please provide any agenda items you think should be discussed prior to that date. Examples might be:

- More/less Saturday races.
- Scheduled corner workers.
- Automated scoring.
- Etc.

Happy Thanksgiving Folks!!

Please note there will be racing at K&M Motorsports Park on Monday Oct 11.

The plan is for some practice, and then an enduro style race. Full details to be determined at the track.

This will be at the regular race time, so practice at 9:30, driver's meeting at 11:45 and racing at Noon. Regular fees will apply.

Come out, have some fun, be thankful for the great weather we've been having, and still have time for a turkey dinner with friends and family!!!

Don't forget the annual general meeting and awards dinner on Sat Nov 6.

Starting Saturday Oct. 9th, K & M will be opening the store at the Brownstone location every Saturday morning from 10:00am until noon. Stop in and have one of Florence’s coffees and “bench race” with the rest of us. Plus this will keep you up to date on all the scuttlebutt from the world of karting. It’s also a good excuse to get away from the headaches. See you there!

Wind-up & Annual General Meeting (updated Oct 5)

Well folks, the SSKC season officially ended on Sunday Sept 26. It was another great day for racing on the prairies! Hope the "guest" flag man didn't cause you drivers too many problems. I'll be watching Grant closely the next time he flags to make sure I've got a better handle on things!!

As Keith said, the official end doesn't mean that the fun can't continue. We could have an enduro, or practice days, or even a fall season if the members are interested. Just contact one of the executive to let them know (our contact info is on the home page of the SSKC website).

We will have the final point standings posted in the next few days. (Actually, we're going to let the suspense about the point standings build until the awards night!!! Editor)

In addition, I took a few digital photos during the racing that I hope to post in the next few days.

Our annual general meeting and year-end wind-up are scheduled for Saturday November 6/04. Keep that date free on your calendar. The meeting will be in the afternoon and the wind-up in the evening. Both events will take place at the Brownstone Plaza - 1275 Broad St.

I'd like to have an agenda available at least a week before, so again, contact an executive member in order to have an item added to the agenda. We appreciate your input!

Things got off to a bit of a slow start on Monday. Sorry about that to all our members and racers.

But, once we got rolling, it was a great day of racing!

Thanks to all the racers, but especially to those from Saskatoon who helped us have one of the largest entries we have had in the past several years. Ain't karting great!!

We'd also like to thank those who arranged and worked at the BBQ portion of the event. Well done!

One last thank you to Keith for bringing out the B&S World Formula kart for people to get a look at. Hard to believe that the initials BS made it into the same sentence as Keith Miller's name isn't it!! (GRIN)

Here's the latest!! We plan to have a barbecue after the racing is completed on Saturday night, so please plan to stay.

We'd suggest you bring along a lawn chair, a sweater or jacket, bug spray and some cash. Burgers and beverages are on the menu.

One last thing, there's gonna be racers there, telling stories about the day and about past conquests, so maybe bringing along a shovel would be good idea! ;^) (GRIN)

We got many things done, but we will be scheduling another night to do additional work on filling holes, roto-tilling the sand traps, spraying weeds and painting the grandstand.

Track Cleanup TODAY!!! - Tuesday Jul 6 - 6PM to 9:30PM

Please help out in Tuesday Jul 6 with a general cleanup at the track.

Please bring a gas trimmer, rakes, shovels and wheelbarrow if you have one.

We plan to cut the grass, trim weeds and fill in the low spots next to several apexes. The last part is to protect chains, sprockets and rotors from damage when a driver misplaces a wheel.

If we finish early, maybe there can be some racin'!!!

Race 3 Completed!! Schedule Corrections and Saskatoon Race

Again, there was great racing among all the classes. It was nice to see full fields in the Junior and Yamaha classes. Let's hope Rotax numbers rebound before the end of the season.

The latest points standings have been posted. They are available by clicking HERE.

Also note, there were some errors in the schedule that was published. The next race, Race #4, is the evening of Saturday July 17, and Race #5 is actually on Monday August 2 (holiday weekend) The complete schedule is available by clicking HERE.

Big Brothers GP Wrap-up

Weather was PERFECT!! The track looked GREAT!! The racing was FABULOUS!!
Things went great at the track yesterday. There was close racing at the front, in the middle, and even at the back of the fields.

We'll provide an update on points and prizes as soon as they are available. I'll also try to get some comments from Big Brothers and Majestics.

Thanks to Z99 (Trish Gillis), all the drivers, teams, fans, and especially all the volunteers!

Next Race Sat June 19:
12:00 noon / Track opens, Registration
12:30 - 5:30 pm / Practice
5:45 pm / Drivers Meeting
6:00 pm / Racing

Track Work for Big Brothers GP - TONIGHT - JUN 3!!

There are several jobs that need doing prior to the big race this weekend. (Mainly fencing, sign hanging and grandstand moving).

Please attend the work session the evening of Thursday Jun 3.

Bring along any last minute sponsor cheques, business card size ads for the program and any track signs they have provided.

Race #1 Complete!!

The wind was cold, the skys were grey, the track was "green", but everyone's spirits were up! Competition was close in many classes. Race #1 is complete.

Great to see some new members, guests and spectators. As always, there were some mechanical breakdowns, but let's hope everyone is back on track for the Big Brother's Grand Prix on Saturday.

BIG BROTHERS GP UPDATE

Here's a Big Brothers Grand Prix update for some of you, for others this may be the first information you have seen on this (remember to attend those off-season club meetings to stay informed!!)

The main thing the executive want you all to know is that each SSKC member is required to locate at least one (1) sponsor for the event. Sponsorships cost $100. Cheques should be made payable to South Sask Kart Club. For their sponsorship, each company receives:
- two free passes to the event.
- a business card sized ad in the event program (which is provided free of charge to spectators).
- space at the track for them to display a company banner or advertising.

Sponsorship money is necessary to cover advertising, portapotty, program and other costs. Big Brothers is again receiving the gate admission as their fundraising part of the arrangement.

Keith has created a very professional looking package that can be shown or provided to potential sponsors. The information is also available on the website. Click on the Big Brothers GP link on the left hand side.

As shown on the schedule, the race is Saturday June 5, so time is running out. In order to be included in the program, sponsor's business cards are required by Saturday May 29 (one week before the race).

For this year, we have included a car show segment (managed by the Majestic's Car Club) to try and attract a larger crowd.

Unfortunately, the baseball folks have asked for their bleachers back. The executive is working hard to find replacements, but in the meantime, please mark off Wed May 26 on your calendars to assist with removing the bleachers from the track.
